2023 CLARB ANNUAL MEETING
SGA Group co-founder and principal Graham Sones (pictured far left in photo) attended the 2023 Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) Annual Meeting, in Henderson, NV, on September 20-22, 2023. He attended as a representative of the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID).
This year’s meeting focused on the themes of ‘Cultivating Connections,” ‘Fostering Community,’ and “Evolving Competency.’ Over 125 representatives from U.S. licensing jurisdictions and international countries participated.
Topics included the following: ‘Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce,’ ‘Planning for the Future-The Why and What of Strategic Planning,’ ‘Building Public Understanding of Landscape Architecture,’ ‘Regulation and Education around the Globe,’ and ‘Regulating Practice Overlap.’
Of special interest this year, the profession of Landscape Architecture was recently designated as a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) discipline. This designation will have far-reaching impacts on the profession and the public, regarding why we practice, how we practice and explaining & defending anti-regulation measures.
Graham is just starting his second 4-year term on the Minnesota Board. There are, currently, 21 technical and public members representing the seven professions regulated by the Board.
